After a very successfull debut for the 16-year old Loek Hartog in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux, Bas Koeten Racing expands its presence in this championship. Starting with the Whitsun Races on Circuit Zandvoort, Kay van Berlo joins the team with a brend new Porsche 991 GT3 Cup car.
Eighteen year old Kay van Berlo from Veghel, started in karting and switched to car racing in 2018. During the winter, he drove the Le Mans Series in a LMP3, and for the remainder of the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux season, he gets in the quick Porsche.
‘A lot of champagne!’
The performances of Porsches and race cars in general are familiar for Van Berlo: his father also owns a 991 GT3 Cup car and his younger brother Glenn drives Formula 4. Kay: ‘I am excited to join Bas Koeten Racing and the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux! They have proven themselves by performing very well in the start of the season. I look forward to working with the team and opening a lot of bottles of champagne.’
Bas Koeten: ‘The comparison with playing a game of roulette is not as far fetched as it sounds: we double our bets! Next to the new Porsche of Loek Hartog, we add Kay van Berlo to our line-up. Loek his learning curve is a steep one, we expect to see the same with Kay. But having said that, his past racing experience is a good predictor of positive results! Many years of karting, LMP3 and with his family he also participated with a 991 GT3 Cup. Porsche Motorsport was able to quickly supply us a new car, that makes that there are three Porsches in our workshop: two prepared for sprint races, and one for endurance racing. Together with Kay and Loek, we work hard to grow in GT classes, first with a focus on Porsche Carrera Cup and after that on Porsche Supercup.’
The next two events where Kay van Berlo and Loek Hartog will compete are the Whitsun Races on Circuit Zandvoort (7-9th of June), followed by DTM at TT Circuit Assen (19-21st of July).
